CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT
The Projects
In recent years, the Cooperative has launched and developed a series of projects designed to enhance its heritage of expertise, the lagoon territory, and traditional fishing activities, while complementing them with new forms of hospitality and tourism services. From ittiturismo and fishing tourism initiatives to actions aimed at innovating processes and offerings, these projects share a common objective: to integrate the fishing economy with sustainable tourism, strengthen the Cooperative’s identity, and create concrete development opportunities for the local community.
The project “New markets for
pescaturismoburano”
Our Cooperative, already recognized for its ittiturismo and fishing tourism activities, intends to further develop these initiatives through a series of interventions aimed at improving business processes, promoting tourism activities, and innovating the services offered. The project is part of the Cooperative’s strategy to diversify economic activities linked to fishing, with the objective of integrating the fishing economy with the tourism sector, creating new opportunities for sustainable development for coastal communities.
Project financed under the PN FEAMPA 2021–2027 for a total amount of €45,604.
The “Ittiturismo” project
Starting in 2019, the San Marco Cooperative signed an agreement with the Municipality of Venice for the recognition of its historic headquarters as a tourist Infopoint, in continuity with its fishing tourism promotion activities and with the objective of increasing its attractiveness by embarking on a differentiating development path.
This led to the creation of the Ittiturismo project, through which part of the unused areas of the Cooperative’s historic headquarters underwent a redevelopment and adaptation intervention to create a new multifunctional space specifically dedicated to tourist reception.
In addition to the Infopoint function of our facility, the former workshop was renovated to create a reception hall for the departure of fishing tourism activities and related initiatives, such as the screening of short films and the temporary exhibition of photographic and multimedia materials related to the fishing culture and traditions of Burano.
The new space aims to expand and enrich our experiential tourism offering system, complementing excursions in the evocative lagoon landscapes and the practical demonstration of fishing techniques with additional recreational and educational proposals intended to disseminate knowledge of the history of Burano.
Innovative experiential fishing tourism formats will be designed to engage and raise awareness among local visitors and international tourists, schools, associations, and, more generally, all those interested in eco-tourism experiences.
The intervention (FEAMP project no. 10/SSL/19/VE, EU Regulation no. 508/2014 – Measure 4.63) was conceived within the Local Action Plan 2014–2020 of the VeGAL–Venetian FLAG, aimed at fostering the growth of the lagoon and maritime economy of the Venetian coast, and in particular within the call for the development of tourism diversification actions and the provision of ecosystem and cultural services, thanks to the resources made available by the Veneto Region under the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund.
